Swimming can improve strength, stamina and suppleness by using all the muscles of the body and exercising the joints. Regular exercise will improve fitness and will enable the body to work more efficiently. The recommended levels of physical activity should be five, thirty minute sessions per week. The intensity of those sessions is crucial to the success of your programme. At Martin James Health Club you will be given specific heart rate targets that will suit you as an individual and help you achieve your personal goals.
Swimming is an activity in which the whole family can take part. It is quite rightly considered to be an activity that can be participated in from cradle to the grave. This provides enormous opportunities for social interaction.
Please take care when using these facilities, as swimming pools can be hazardous places. The water itself presents a risk of drowning, and injuries can occur from hitting the hard surfaces around poolside or from the misuse of equipment.
This particular pool is very shallow at the end near to the Bar Lounge and slopes very quickly to 1.7 metres in the deep end. If you are a weak swimmer be careful to stay close to the handrail when entering deeper water. If you are a non-swimmer do not stray out of you depth unless you are being supervised by one of the swimming teachers.
